How does no touch button work?

To trigger the button, a person must simply wave their hand in front of the device to exit the building. The infrared (IR) will detect the motion and unlatch the time adjustable door. These motion sensor switches are constructed of stainless steel, allowing the device to take tough knocks in stride.

Why are there push to exit buttons?
